Perhaps that's why the video is such a hit.
Tosh Zhang wrote Ah Boys To Men official catchy theme song - RECRUIT'S ANTHEM.It tells the daily life of a Singaporean recruit training to be a soldier. It also bring back memories for those who went through National Service to reminisce the moments of being a recruit. The process of which an "ah boy" becomes a man.Behind the song though lies a more serious message, where it requires sweat and painful sacrifice from the NSman himself to his parents, family, commanders and the SAF support network. Perhaps that's why the video is such a hit.

My form teacher and higher chinese teacher is leaving Bartley at the end of the year. I wish her all the best in her future work. 3E2'12 misses you! Hope she will remember us forever!
Start with small goals and get to bigger ones once your belief level is already high. Belief is another key element that you must have in order for your desires to manifest. So what are you waiting for? Dream, believe, and then manifest now!
1. What do you remember most about your school days in Bartley? I will always remember those programmes that the school put me through. For instance the Sports Education Programme. (SEP). SEP offers Bartleyan a variety of sports to learn, ranging from sailing, golf, wrestling, karate etc. I feel that SEP is part of Bartley's education system where I am encouraged to learn and participate in a new sports training. I remember that I went to Singapore Wrestling Foundation in 2010 to learn wrestling skills from professional coach. I left the course with more confidence in myself, now I am able to protect myself from any danger. Thank You Bartley, and I will never forget SEP! 2.What do you miss most about Bartley? I miss those overseas learning journey that was conducted by Bartley Secondary School. My overseas trip to Beijing and Xian is always unforgettable. That was the best opportunity for me to bond with my fellow schoolmates and classmates throughout the day for a week.It was a fun time where my friendship with them became stronger. At the same time, I get to learn more about China's history and observe how lessons are conducted in two different China school. Guess what? I was able to visit one of the amazing seven wonders in the world- Great Wall of China! I would like to take this opportunity to tell Bartley that I really enjoyed the overseas trip to China. A big thank you to Bartley Secondary School for giving me the opportunity to travel with my friends and learn new knowledge! 3. What are your well wishes for Bartley? Happy 60th Anniversary! I would love to extend my most appreciative gesture and thought to congratulate Bartley’s 60th Anniversary. This is a great achievement for Bartley to be a value-added school for 60 years, always committing to touch the lives of not just hundreds, but thousands of alumni over the years. I have benefited from all the wonderful programmes, which I proudly acknowledge. I have confidence that it can continue to reach greater heights and with many more decades or centuries of glories to be achieved in future. Keep up the good work! It doesn't matter where you go in life or what you achieve, or what you do - what matters most is who you have beside you along the way! Teachers are one of the greatest people whom you can across in your life. They are not only the selfless givers but also the mentors of your life. At every step of your life, you come cross teachers who devote their entire life in the enlightenment of students like you. “They inspire you, they entertain you, and you end up learning a ton even when you don't know it” ― Nicholas Sparks, Dear John After reading the TODAY’s news article “McDonald's to charge for extra nugget sauce”, I strongly support McDonald’s move. I believe that it is practical for McDonald to implement 30-cent islandwide charge for extra curry sauce as it is a correct move to stop wastage of any kind.
In my point of view, the one free packet of sauce is definitely enough for 4 pieces of nuggets. Those who wanted more are being greedy and shellfish. They are likely bring home for their own cooking purposes. However, taste from individual customers may vary- some like it hot, some like it plain. I suggest that McDonald should have a 30 cent deduction for those who prefer to eat plain without sauce. In a sense, McDonald is buying back the customer’s entitled pack of sauce. In fact this move by McDonald is a form of public education, teaching the public not to take more than what they need. Singaporeans will only be mindful of the amount of sauce they take when it involves paying money out of their pocket. I hope fellow Singaporeans can accept and understand the reasons behind McDonald idea of introducing extra charge for nugget sauce! I have written a witty fruity caption to accompany this image!
Here goes: “Bury you and me in a cup of smoothie!” Hope you enjoy reading it! Bartley is not the usual secondary school. But, it is a unique value-added school with high performing culture.
Firstly, Bartley has a team of dedicated teachers that commit themselves in enhancing the educational experiences for every Bartleyan to be well developed and prepared for the future. It may be in the form of social and emotional competencies, being able to live a moral, healthy and active lifestyle, and become a confident, responsible and resilient citizen of the country. Secondly, Bartley ‘s strong belief that every student has the potential to learn and succeed. Bartley is always aiming to better provide every Bartleyan with a cohesive environment for learning to take place. It is to ensure that every student learns when teachers teach. The school is like a closely – connected community always helping each other to be a more knowledgeable person. Thirdly, in the eyes of Bartley, every Bartleyan is a resilient and responsible leader. They are able to lead oneself and others, demonstrating their passion for learning and a spirit for innovation. The students get to show their personal leadership through the 5As of Attending in school activities, being Attentive in class, having the right Attitude in learning, completing Assignments and being prepared for Assessments. In conclusion, Bartley Secondary School is the right place for every student to quest for excellence, and make a difference in life. Most importantly, every Bartleyan need live up to the school’s motto– Facta Non Verba. It means that students do not express their actions using speech, but the actions must be really done out whole-heartedly and truthfully. Dylan remembered those army days back in 1980s when he was the first few batches of medically fit Singaporean male citizen to be enlisted for National Service (NS) upon reaching the age of 18.He was actually one of the Singaporean that witnessed then Minister Of Defence, Dr. Goh Keng Swee who passed the National Service Amendment Bill on 14 March 1967.
Dylan was one of them who received the pink reminder cards for NS enlistment. On 28 March 1983 it was the day when he had to report to the Central Manpower Base at Dempsey Road for enlistment. This marked his beginning in serving National Service. Upon registration, Dylan had to be transported on 3-tonners from one place to another to collect his uniforms and other issued equipment. After collection, all recruits boarded the Ramp-powered Launch (RPL) which chugged towards Pulau Tekong. The whole journey under the scorching sun took about forty-five minutes before it reached Pulau Tekong. Dylan marched with other recruits back to their barracks. Dylan then put on his army uniform which reminded him of his responsibilities towards national defence. It was the transition for him to change from fresh-faced teenager to combat-ready fit soldier. National Service was also the period to establish self and mutual respect for each other, working towards cohesion and unity. He was posted to Bravo Company Platoon 18. Life in Pulau Tekong wasn’t comfortable at all. Every recruit was only given a wooden cupboard and a single bed. Dylan had to share a common bathroom, where he bathed with whole platoon. Pulau Tekong was well known for being haunted. Dylan’s first training was to undergo a standard Basic Military Training (BMT) at the Basic Military Training Centre. BMT taught him basic soldiering skills, which include weapon handling, individual field craft, bayonet fighting, etc to ensure survivability in the battlefield. Apart from the basic training in military skills, Physical Training (PT) lessons are also conducted to build up the soldiers' physique and stamina, to instill a firm sense of discipline and teamwork amongst the soldiers. After Dylan completed his BMT, he was posted to Bravo Company in Officer Cadet School, for his Infantry Officer Cadet Course (IOCC). It was a very challenging period, both physically and psychologically, as the cadets was pushed to their limits by the high demanding instructors. Rewards for good performance were always the main reason for intense competition between Delta and Bravo Companies. Soon two years passed by, Dylan completed his National Service with a rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He then proceeded on to earn a living by being a general manager in an office. However, for the next 10 years he was still required to report back to army camp to continue his training. He is a Reservists, also known as Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen). He is suitable for deployment in defending Singapore at wars. At the main entrance of Central Manpower Base, there is always a tall standing statue of NS mobilisation symbol. The symbol depicts a soldier in an "On-Guard" posture, symbolising the Operational Readiness of our NSmen to serve the country should the need arises. At times, the symbol can also be seen on national television, flashed with a set of codenames during mobilisation, to activate the mobilised units. In conclusion, it is important for all Singaporeans young men to come together, and to put in their power in forming a defence force. Building a strong defence force helps to ensure peace and stability in Singapore. With stability, foreign investors would then be attracted to invest in Singapore, boosting Singapore’s economy. Majulah Singapura. My school's annual E-Learning Day is schedued on 11 Apr 2012 (Wed). On this day, all students need not come to school.
Before the actual day, all student need to ensure that they do a system check on www.mconline.sg and www.ace-learning.com.sg so as to confirm that all necessary software has been downloaded in theit computer for a smooth E-learning experience. On the actual day starting at 7.30am, I first went to visit the school website www.bartleysec.moe.edu.sg to retrieve a set of E-learning lesson instructions given by teachers before logging into the respective portals to attempt the actual tasks. Only students without computer/internet access are allowed to return to school between 8am to 2pm in school uniform with his/her books in case they need to be referred during the independent learning process. However, students are strongly discouraged to return school if they manages to have computer and internet access elsewhere (e.g. relative's place). This is to realistically simulate a school closure. |
